What have I been up to . . .

What to blog about? It has been so long since Christmas I can’t blog about Christmas, even though the time off was heaven.

During that time we made snowmen and sock puppets. I got my closets organized, but now I have to do it again, any suggestions on how to keep your pantry organized?

Since then I have been back at work dealing with the craziness of that. Audits and audits, anyone want my job? I’ll trade you.

During my time away from blogging I did find out . . . that I have Celiac Disease. I know you were hoping I was going to say pregnant, I was too. All the siblings in my family suffer from digestive problems except me. Yeah, I have a little pain here and there which I thought to come from when I ate badly, but in reality it comes from eating gluten. Gluten = Wheat, Barely, and Rye. Do you know what has gluten in it? EVERYTHING! Of course the obvious things, but also gravy, some salad dressings, and tomato soup, most sour creams, etc. I have learned the more natural items are the less likely they are to have gluten in them. No more generic products for me and tons of organic items. I was hoping to go on a diet this year, and this is turning out to be a great one. There are a lot of products now that are gluten free, I think twice about spending $5 for a brownie mix or a bread mix.
The couple things about having Celiac Disease that make sense are infertility, and being short. I can’t do anything about being short, but I am hoping that through correcting my diet and I will be able to get pregnant.

Collette, I am sorry to hear about the Celiacs, but it has to be nice to have a small answer to other things. In case you ever want to check it out, there is a little store here by us that is called "Against the Grain". It is owned by a parent of one of our students that found out their child also had celiacs. Since then they have also diagnosed her (the mom) and the other sister. So the mom opened their own store because it was so hard to find things to eat. It is suppose to be pretty neat. I told her about you guys and she said to tell you to come in anytime, tell her (her name is Diane) that your aunt is Irene Taylor at Vista and she will give you lots of info. Good luck, I sure hope that knowing what it is makes it better.

Hopefully now you can make the changes to make you feel better. I am sorry. I hope it heals the fertility as well!

I have a friend with the same issue. It has been an adjustement for her, but she has had better luck getting pregnant since handling her diet. She also found a couple of Gluten free bakery shops in the valley (I will try to remember to ask her the name). I also know Sparkrecipes.com has a way to search for Gluten free recipes. Good luck!

Bummer about the celiac! My BFF growing up had it and her mom would always make us cookies, etc with rice flour. Now I totally love rice flour cookies!!!!

I'm so sorry. Stuff like that is never easy. I hope the diet adjustment isn't too difficult and that most of all, you can get pregnant!

Well, from what I know about celiac disease, it's that you will definately lose weight! So hey, there's a plus to the whole thing. Only in the past two years have I heard about that (I have digestive issues, so I wondered if it was possible I had it) and it seems like there's been more awareness lately and more friendly food easily available. I hope everything goes will for you! And hopefully you can have another cute baby soon!
